How I Fixed NordicTrack Treadmill Blows Fuse Issue: 2 Scenarios

NordicTrack Treadmill Blows Fuse
NordicTrack Treadmill Blows Fuse

I own a NordicTrack treadmill for years.

During this period, the fuse of my treadmill blew, but luckily not too frequent.

In this post, I will talk about the NordicTrack treadmill keeps blowing fuse issue.

I will talk about this in two scenarios

  • The fuse of the treadmill plug blows
  • The fuse of the power extension plug that being used to connect to the treadmill blows

NordicTrack Treadmill Blows Fuse

Scenario 1: The fuse of the treadmill plug blows

I believe NordicTrack does not encourage user to use power extension on their treadmill.

The treadmill power plug should be connected directly to the power outlet of your house.

As you can see from my image below, my NordicTrack treadmill power plug is fused with a three pin UK style.

Your treadmill power plug might be different than mine depend on your treadmill model and country power ratings.

To check on the fuse inside, use a screwdriver to insert into the edge and open the fuse cover.

This is how the fuse of my NordicTrack power plug looks like, it is a 13A fuse.

If this fuse blew, simply purchase a new 13A fuse and replace it.

Please take note remember how’s the direction of the original fuse installed, you would need to put the new fuse in the same direction as the old one.

In normal case, the fuse should be working fine unless there is a sudden power surge from your power socket.

In case of sudden power surge, the fuse would be disconnected as the electrical ampere pass through it is too high.

Another possible reason is that the treadmill is drawing more power from the electrical outlet and cause the fuse to blows.

To have a stable electrical power and voltage feed to your treadmill is important.

If the treadmill does not have stable power input, it may lead to inconsistent speed problem, beeping non-stop and even the belt won’t move at all.

I have a Voltage stabilizer installed for my treadmill as shown in the image below:

The voltage stabilizer can help to output stable power that the treadmill needs.

My treadmill power setup is as below

Treadmill plug >> Voltage Stabilizer >> Power Extension >> House Power Outlet

Yes, I did use a power extension and I will talk about this later in this post.

My voltage stabilizer has a circuit breaker in it to serve as a protective measure to interrupt the electrical circuit incase any abnormal overload condition occurs.

I would also advice you to get a voltage stabilizer for your treadmill if your treadmill fuse keeps blowing.

A stable electrical power can preserve the lifespan of the treadmill fuse.

What you need to know before getting a suitable voltage stabilizer for your treadmill is checking the power rating it supports.

For example, the maximum power rating of my voltage stabilizer is 1200W as shown in the image below.

Hence, the maximum power my treadmill consumes should not be more than 1200W or this voltage stabilizer won’t be able to feed the power my treadmill needs.

To check your treadmill power ratings, you may Google the user manual of your treadmill and look for the maximum power consumption it operates.

If you have a suitable voltage stabilizer installed and the treadmill still keeps blowing fuse, below are some other possible reasons:

NordicTrack Treadmill Motor Problem

  • Faulty Circuit Board: When the circuit board is not working properly, it may lead to irregularities in the electrical flows and indirectly cause the fuse of your treadmill plug to blow

  • Overloading and High belt tension: This is another possible scenario where the treadmill is overloaded, where exceeds its weight limit, and the motor would need to draw more current to operate. Normally the treadmill would also stop suddenly during the workout session. Besides, if the belt tension is too high, the motor would face the same issue and more power and current needed. Hence, the fuse might simply blow as it cannot let that level of high current pass through it.
  • Wrong fuse ratings: If you have replaced the fuse before, make sure the new fuse has the same power ratings compared to the old one. Using an incorrect fuse won’t work for long term, and it will definitely blow again and again no matter how many times you replace them.

Scenario 2: The fuse of the power extension plug that being used to connect to the treadmill blows

As I mentioned before, I use a power extension to supply power to my treadmill as the location of my treadmill does not have any power outlet.

Yes, I understand that this is not recommended by NordicTrack, but I simply need the power extension to make things work.

The image below shows my previous fuse blew issue with my power extension plug.

As you can see, there was an abnormal scene on the plug cover.

To replace a fuse in a power extension plug, first you would need a screwdriver.

power extension plug and screwdriver

Unscrew the plug cover and open it slowly to avoid interrupting the original circuit connection.

As you can see from the image below, there is a 13A fuse inside the plug as well.

Simply remove the old fuse and replace it with a new one.

Please take note you might need to align the new fuse in the same direction as the old fuse in the fuse bracket or the newly replaced fuse might not work.

remove and replace 13A fuse

And lastly, close the plug cover back slowly.

put 13A fuse back

Use a screwdriver to tighten the screw and the new fuse replacement is done.

What to do if the treadmill still keeps blowing the fuse in the power extension?

Do you know that not all power extension built the same, some can support lower power ratings while some high quality power extensions can support higher power consumption.

For example, the Belkin power extension is not an average power extension, it is also a surge protector which can prevent the treadmill to experience electrical shocks in case of power surge.

As you can see from the image below, this model of Belkin surge protector can support 13A current, and up to 3250W.

This definitely would be a suitable product to use as power extension in most of the treadmill nowadays.

Besides, you can see that the plug is also 13A fused, and the plug is much more higher quality than normal power plug.

Hence, get yourself a high quality power extension if you need one.

Avoid getting a cheap and low quality power extension and use it on your treadmill.

Conclusion

In this post, I have discussed the possible reasons why the NordicTrack treadmill keeps blowing fuse.

It can be due to power surge, motor issue, circuit board malfunction, etc.

If you experience the same fuse blew issue, let me know in the comment box below.
