How to Repair a NordicTrack Bike

There’s that exercise bike you purchased to improve your health, your NordicTrack. It was all good until you moved it to the corner of the living room where it gathers dust. You thought this would be easy.

You’re not getting on it. Now it sounds like it has a stick or two up its butt, error messages make no sense. Argh!

Why didn’t you send it back? Don’t do it yet. Most problems is easily fixed.

In fact, many times they are just routine maintenance. We’ve listed them here for you, step by step, so you can get back out there and ride. Let’s start at the beginning.

Step By Step Guide To Fixing NordicTrack Bikes

Basic Power and Console Checks

More often than not its the power. Then we skip to skipping ’em. Is your plug in snug?

A loose plug can mimics a broken console. Plug in both ends of the power cord and make sure it is all the way in. Got a battery backup on the bike?

The small coin cell batteries needs replacement. Memory in the console get cleared out when the backup dies. This looks like a software glitch but isn’t.

It is a simple solution that avoids a service call.

Silencing the Squeaky Seat Post

Who hasn’t been annoyed by that squeaky seat post? Metal are rubbing against metal without enough lubricant.

Pull the seat out. Wipe the post clean with a dry rag. Squeeze a small drop of silicone lubricant on it.

You can also use graphite powder. Do not use petroleum-based grease in this situation, as it attracts grit and dust. The result is an abrasive paste.

This speed up wear. Push the seat back in place. Firmly but gently tighten the clamp until it stays.

Too tight will crack the frame or distort post.

Tightening Pedals and Spindles

That brings in other thing that make noise. The foot pedals can comes loose on hard effort.

They’ll clunk. Reach for your manual and get out the right hex key. Snug the bolts back up.

Go easy. Don’t turn too hard or you risk forcing the specific threads NordicTrack uses and stripping metal. Once stripped it’s all over, you can’t fix it.

If your pedals is sounding gritty, it’s time to clean off the spindles. Re-lube them with lightweight bike grease and repack them. This ensures smooth rotation and protects your knees.

It makes riding feel more efficienter.

Resolving Sensor Error Codes

But worst of all are the console errors. An E1 or an E2 error are pointing to a sensor problem.

Now find that flywheel magnet. Then look for the sensor on the frame. It needs to almost touch but it can’t quite touch.

When they does touch, it breaks the signal. So adjust the gap between the sensor until it’s maybe a millimeter apart. No metal spacers!

Non-magnetic only. Tack with a business card to get the distance right. Clear signal = no more errors

Maintaining the Drive Belt

Is your tension belt losing tension?

The belt slip. Pulley dust accumulates. Vacuum the surround of the drive mechanism.

Add slight silicone spray. Not to pulleys. To belt.

Rubbers is ruined by oil. Oil ruins the rubber and causes slippage. Tighten the flywheel cover tension bolts slightly to regain belt resistance.

Is the belt cracked? Change it. It wears out the motor.

Get ahead of it.

Preventive Maintenance Routine

The key to avoiding all this, and it will happen again if you don’t, is preventive maintenance. After each use, wipe the machine down.

Yes, sweat are corrosive. It corrodes paint. It rusts nuts and bolts.

Check screws on the machine each month to make sure none are missing or have come loose. It takes thirty seconds with a quarter turn of a wrench to avoid big problems in the future. Grow your investment in NordicTrack.

Keep the ride smooth. Clear the console. Stay motivated.

And that’s the real reward.
