Carb timing: Treat the first dose as insurance, not a response to fatigue. Starting near 15 to 25 minutes gives the gut time to work before glycogen gets low.
Fluid realism: Compare the calculated fluid target with your aid-station access. A perfect spreadsheet plan fails if you cannot physically drink that volume on course.
Sodium matching: Sodium need is driven by sweat volume and sweat concentration. Salt marks, hot conditions, and high sweat rates often justify a higher replacement target.
Gut tolerance: Do not jump from 40 g/hour in training to 90 g/hour on race day. Raise intake across several long runs and rehearse with your exact products.
