CrossFit is a training programs that was designed to develop many of the physical quality at the same time. Traditional training might focus on working specific muscle or focusing upon one training goal for the individual, but CrossFit aim to develop competence in many different physical qualities at once. While the breadth of the program are one of its greatest strengths, it is also potentially one of the most intimidating aspect of CrossFit for the individual.

The workout chart for CrossFit was created as a way of providing an organization of the various element of CrossFit so that individuals can become familiar with the program prior to beginning to train with an barbell. At the center of the chart are the ten domains of fitness. These domains define the program of CrossFit.

Main Parts of CrossFit

The ten domains of fitness include aspect like cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. Each of these domains are equally important for CrossFit athletes. While many individuals may have developed strength in one or two of these areas already, the chart allows individuals to become aware of any gap in there physical qualities.

CrossFit aims to ensure that athletes improve all of these domains of fitness rather than just focusing upon any strength that an athlete may have relative to these domains. Beneath the ten domains of fitness are the nine foundational movements of CrossFit. All movements within CrossFit build upon these nine movements.

For instance, movements like the air squat, front squat, and overhead squat allow athletes to learn how to move under a load while keeping their spine safe. Other movements like the shoulder press, push press, and push jerk allow athletes to develop strength overhead or to increase the speed with which they can perform those moves. The deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull, and the medicine ball clean are all movements that introduce athletes to the concept of the “hip-hinge,” a movement that is required to perform most explosive movements within CrossFit.

These foundational movements is important for CrossFit because they are the movements that CrossFit’s program utilizes. If athletes dont master these movements, they may become injured due to using incorrect (bad) mechanics during their workout. Beneath these foundational movements are the benchmark workouts for CrossFit, often referred to as the Girls.

CrossFit athletes do not perform workouts like Fran, Helen, and Annie daily. However, these workouts are utilized as a means of determining the improvement that athletes have made over time. In addition, athletes can use these workouts to determine which domains of fitness require more attention from athletes than others, as well as to understand the fitness level of those athletes.

Separate from the other workouts on the chart are the hero workouts. These workouts, such as Murph, DT, and Jackie are among the more difficult workouts include within CrossFit. These workouts are performed only occasionally.

However, they are included within the program as a means of honoring the fallen service member and first responders. Beneath the hero workouts are the different terminology used within CrossFit. Terms like WOD, AMRAP, EMOM, and RX are used frequentally within the
